At the core of the recent Israel-Palestine conflict is Hamas, which exists to destroy Israel. Israel’s response to Hamas rocket attacks was widely viewed as excessive; but for Israel, the first war it loses, will be its last. In this battlefield, what is justice? How do we decide what is right and wrong? Good and evil? How do we decide whether an army is acting with necessary restraint or with unacceptable force? How do we decide what a war crime is? Answer some of these questions, and Europe may get a little closer to understanding the Middle East.
